January 2026 Musing -- Momentum

Happy new year. Welcome 2026 and Fire Horse energy.

If you have ever seen a cutting horse who is sorting cattle, or a reining horse who is running full speed in one direction, stop and turn 180 degrees to run full speed in the opposite direction it can be awe inspiring.  The horse is one bold mass of rippling muscles changing direction in a split second, all while carrying a human passenger.

Horses are not overthinking the challenge of momentum, or friction, conservation of energy, or anticipation, they simply engage and change direction. It blows my mind when I geek out about the science behind what I’m seeing as art in motion while watching a horse doing his thing.

I’m sharing this tidbit to inspire you to look at both sides of momentum. We love momentum when it is rolling along in our favor. When the time comes that we need to change direction, momentum can feel like a lot to overcome, and you might not feel like you don’t have the power to engage in making a change.  

You do have the power. 

Maybe it will feel clunky and overwhelming to engage with momentum when you want a change in direction. Do it anyway. Think about horse power when you need inspiration. Embrace your inner power in this new year of Fire Horse energy. Stay adaptable and look forward to a year full of movement and discovery about momentum.

Spirit animal: HORSE

No animal has done more in relationship with humans and the spread of civilization than the horse. They are symbolic across cultures, in history and mythology. Gifted with high sensitivity, emotional intelligence and power, horses carry complex symbolism.

Arapaho shamans shared the wisdom of horses as gateways to power. They teach us compassion and caring and the value of sharing your gifts, talents, and abilities.  

If you want to find more of your personal power, invite Horse to be your spirit guide. Engaging with horse energy can amplify freedom, balance, and harmony. Spirit horse can teach you about devotion in relationships and trusting partnerships too.

Behind the scenes…

**I believe with all my heart the animals are here to guide us toward being better humans. If I can get that message out to 10 people, it is enough. I’m not attached to a particular outcome or platform and, it is my opportunity to do more on behalf of spreading the wisdom of our animal companions and friends. Independent publishing is a great way to share books. Traditional publishing takes more time and attention to details for the writer. I’m pitching this manuscript with the intent to share more broadly, and I’ll keep you updated on how things go.

**Based on your feedback, the nature of working with spirit animals is pretty personal and specific, so individual sessions will continue to be the primary focus of my offerings.  I’m still open to some sort of webinar or video lesson to expand on what a particular animal can share and when to call on that kind of energy.

**Substack is looming as a necessary tool for reaching like-minded souls who value animal wisdom and want to share more good in the world. I’m staying optimistic about the possibilities and learning more about how it all works. I’m not a social media fan and it feels like this may be my option for managing a safer online space.
